Windsor Wrestlers do well at NCS Placing Two, Sending Torres to State for 2nd Consecutive Year
Windsor High School Wrestlers Competing at North Coast Section Championships did awesome this weekend. Everybody had victories and gained valuable experience for next year (underclassman) and for the Seniors, memories that will go with them the rest of their lives. Winning matches at Section and the possibility of a dream-shot of competing at the coveted CIF state Finals.
Competing at NCS are the top 40 Wrestlers in each weight class from the 300+ NCS Member Schools, top 4 advancing to Bakersfield for the chance at being a State Champion and wrestling at Nationals. In High School Wrestling there are no allowances for size of school as there are in other sports. Students from the Smallest Schools must compete with Students from the Largest. All that separates wrestlers is weight, skill and desire. Freshman can face Seniors. To be one of 40 in Sections is awesome, to be one of 40 in the State is almost beyond comprehension. It is so rare to have a state champion from an entire area, let alone your school.
Windsor has only had one State Placer in it’s history, Cody Howe last year. Our next Greatest hope is Junior 114 pounder Andres Torres. NCS #2 Seed Andres Torres was true to his seeding and took 2nd Place at NCS qualifying him for a return to Bakersfield. Andres was 4-1 defeating Matt Waespi of Castro Valley, Caven McCaffery of James Logan, Major Stelly of Dublin and #3 Ty Stevenson of McKinleyville. His only loss was to #1 Vinny Moita of DeLesalle in the Championship Match. The best of Luck to Andres at the CIF Finals, he truly has the chance to place in his return visit to State.
Senior Heavyweight Joe Dail placed 5th narrowly missing the chance to go to State. Joe exceeded his #8 Seeding with a record of 5-2 losing only to the #1 Seed Orry Elon of College Park and #3 Matthew Rashad of Fort Bragg. His victories were over D.J. Ingalla of Arroyo, Alex Stephans of Albany, Gonzalo Morales of San Leandro, Spencer Miller of Foothill and a Win by Fall over Morgan Nelson of Kelseyville for 5th. Congratulations Joe, we are so Proud of you. Your final High School Match shall be with you forever, a decisive victory.
The Balance of the WHS Squad did as follows:
Senior Campbell Kelley, 2-2 with victories over Miramonte and Rancho Cotati; Taylor Biaggi 3-2 with victories over James Logan, Monte Vista and Hoopa; Freshman Oscar Rios was 2-2 with victories over Del Norte and Fort Bragg. Coach Carnation stated that Oscar picked up the most wins for a freshman at Windsor since Leroy Green in 2005. Way to go Oscar.

WHS Baseball Hosts Instructional Baseball Camp
Windsor High Baseball program hosted a instructional baseball clinic directed by Former Major League Baseball Player Rob Deer (Brewers, Tigers, Giants & Padres). The two day camp at Windsor High covered many facets of Baseball from the classroom to the field. All of the youth and High School players received individual focus and tips from the cadre of former pro’s and one current, Windsor High Schools own, Jake Kahaulelio (currently in the Red’s organization). Also assisting Rob Deer were former Minor League players Roger Vartanian, Todd Noonan and Tim Cousins (catchers).
What a great weekend, even ducking raindrops couldn’t deter the energy flowing to get out and hit field and throw. Instructional camps such as this one, combined with the experience of traveling as a team to Arizona and play are tremendous enrichments that our students will take with them the rest of their lives.
A special Booster’s thanks to Coaches Larry Doherty, Dave Hunter, Nohl McKenna, Kyle Hellums, Daryl Fazzio, TJ Van Bebber and Ray Guzman for putting this on, Steve Brown and Annette Fazzio for preparing lunch Sunday.
WHS Boosters salutes Rob Deer and Roger Vartanian for taking time out of their busy schedules at the onset of spring training in Arizona to come work with and inspire our students. The experience will only add to the excitement of the upcoming season. Go Jaguars!
